Introduction

Cutter suction dredgers integrate dredging, suction, and discharge: they break up underwater soil with a rotating cutter head, suck in slurry under negative pressure using a mud pump, and transport it over long distances to designated areas via pipelines. Simultaneously, they rely on a positioning system for precise operation, making them suitable for scenarios such as waterway dredging and land reclamation.

Cutter Head

       
The cutter head is made of high-chromium alloy and is used to shred materials that need to be dredged from the riverbed, making it easier for pumps and pipelines to extract and discharge them.

        Its advantages include high hardness, making it less prone to wear when dredging mud, soft sand, silt, rocks, and weathered volcanic rock. It is suitable for use in freshwater, seawater, brackish water, and rivers, lakes, and port areas containing acidic or alkaline pollutants.

Suction Pipe

1. The sludge is cut and agitated by a cutter, mixing with water to form a high-concentration slurry.

2. After the slurry pump starts, a negative pressure vacuum environment is created inside the suction pipe.
 
3. The pressure difference between the external atmospheric pressure and the internal negative pressure of the pump creates a vacuum.

4. The slurry enters the suction pipe from the suction port, is transported upwards along the suction pipe, and enters the ship's slurry pump through a flexible joint.

Pump
 

    The pump used in cutter suction dredgers, employing Australian technology and manufactured in China-the Worman pump/slurry pump-is the core power component of the entire vessel.

    The high-speed rotation of the impeller creates negative pressure within the pipes, drawing slurry into the pump. The high-speed rotation of the pump generates pressure, and the pressurized slurry is pumped at a high lift into the discharge pipe, achieving long-distance backfilling and transportation.

 

Cumins/Weichai Engine

  Drive the mud pump: Power the mud pump via a gearbox, providing power for mud suction, pressurization, and long-distance transport, ensuring sufficient flow and head.
  Drive the hydraulic system: Provide hydraulic power for actuators such as the cutterhead, bridge lifting, traverse winch, positioning pile raising and lowering, and anchor winch.
  Drive the generator: Provide power for the ship's control systems, lighting, communication and navigation equipment, monitoring systems, instrument sensors, and domestic electricity.

 

HDPE Pipeline
 

Using brand-new HEPE pipes, after a series of processes including cutter head, pump, and engine, the slurry is discharged to the designated location via the pipe connected to the pump outlet (a pumping station is required for distances exceeding 2000m).
